Warner Robins police are investigating a shooting Wednesday morning that took place in a driveway of a duplex apartment at 300 Carolina Ave.
Kalup Jammal Thomas, 27, was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, with multiple gunshot wounds, Assistant Chief John Wagner said.
Thomas was listed in stable condition late Wednesday afternoon, Wagner said.
Gabriel Blair Duncan, 23, of Warner Robins, was charged with aggravated assault, according to a Warner Robins police news release.
Duncan, who was taken into custody for questioning after the 11:13 a.m. incident Wednesday, claimed self defense, Wagner said.
“We don’t know what the dispute was about yet,” Wagner said. “We’re still trying to piece it together.”
Duncan fired upon suspected burglars in 2012 but was not charged in that incident, Wagner said.
Shortly before 10 p.m. May 12, 2012, Duncan, who was 18 at the time, was at his apartment in the 1000 block of Elberta Road when two men forced their way inside, police said then. Duncan fired at the men and they fled.
A man suspected of the burglary was found shot in the 100 block of Dixie Trail, police said in 2012. His injuries were not life-threatening. It was unclear Wednesday whether those suspected of the burglary were prosecuted, and Wagner said he would look into it.
Anyone with information regarding Wednesday’s incident is encouraged to call Warner Robins police detectives Shane Mann or James Nix at 478-302-5380, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
