A woman was found dead inside a burned recreational vehicle on Interstate 75 on Sunday.
The fire was called in about 4:15 p.m. and the body was found after Perry firefighters extinguished the blaze, according to a Perry Fire Department release.
The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The RV was found under the South Perry Parkway overpass on the northbound side. It was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, the release stated. Two lanes of northbound traffic were shut down.
Once the fire was extinguished, the body was found on the floor inside the RV. The Perry Police Department and Georgia State Fire Marshal’s office were called in to investigate.
Damage to the bridge was detected, and initially traffic over the bridge was stopped until Georgia Department of Transportation engineers arrived on the scene and declared the bridge safe.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
All lanes of traffic on the interstate were reopened at 8:54 p.m.
