A 32-year-old man was on the run Thursday after leading federal marshals on a chase, during which he plowed into a fence at a north Macon day care.
About 12:15 p.m., the U.S. Marshals Southeastern Regional Fugitive Task Force tried to serve a warrant on Christopher Derek Simpson, who fled in a Budget rental truck with a passenger, Bibb County sheriff’s Lt. Randy Gonzalez said. Simpson faces charges of theft by deception and violation of probation.
Simpson drove in to the Manor Terrace neighborhood and eventually crashed into a fence at the Discovery World Learning Center day care in the 5400 block of Forsyth Road. No one was injured.
Simpson ran from the vehicle and is still being sought. The passenger, who also tried to flee, was questioned and later released, according to a statement from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Anyone with information regarding Simpson’s whereabouts is asked to call the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 877-68-CRIME or 478-742-2330.
