Interstate 75 South was shut down for 90 minutes Sunday after a Bonaire man was thrown from his SUV in Macon.
Just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Edward Boland was headed south in the middle lane and hit a Toyota Sienna traveling in front of him as he was changing lanes, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Boland’s 1999 Chevrolet Suburban hit the guardrail on the right side of the highway, then shot across the interstate into the cement divider near the Napier Avenue overpass.
Boland was critically injured when he was ejected through the passenger window and was taken to Medical Center, Navicent Health.

The 51-year-old Warner Robins man driving the Toyota, and his passengers, were not seriously injured but were checked by EMTs at the scene.
Traffic backed up to the Interstate 16 split as deputies detoured vehicles at the Hardeman exit.
