A group of churches is planning to take up a special collection to help a Macon church that was burned by suspected arson.

The Rev. Scott Peterson, pastor at All Saints Episcopal Church in Warner Robins, said that during a Tuesday meeting of Episcopal churches in the region, five agreed to take up a special collection for God’s Power Church of Christ. The church was burned June 23.

The special collection will be taken during services on July 26. Peterson said he is inviting other churches of all denominations to join in the effort by taking up a collection that day for the Macon church.

“Certainly, we are appalled by the fact that it could be arson, and we started looking at what we could do,” Peterson said.

Other churches involved in the effort are Christ Episcopal Church, St. James Episcopal Church and St. Francis Episcopal Church, all in Macon, and St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Milledgeville.

Peterson said any other churches that want to join the effort can give directly to God’s Power Church of Christ or call him at 478-923-1791.
