The winners of a new music initiative contest for Macon and Middle Georgia will be announced Monday.
NewTown Macon and Shadow Sound Studio launched the Macon Music CD Project several months ago as a way of promoting the region’s music talent.
At a 10 a.m. event Monday at the Cox Capitol Theatre on Second Street, 10 winners will be announced, said Nicole Kubas, director of place for NewTown.
“It’s a wide range of genres from artists all from Macon and Middle Georgia,” said Kubas, who said the winners were chosen from a field of 26 entries. “They all have different levels of experience. They were judged on the merits of their music.”
The winners will receive recording studio time in July with producer Joey Stuckey, who owns Shadow Sound Studio. Stuckey will mix the CD, which will be available in September at a CD release party.
Kubas said the CDs won’t be available for sale, but will be given out at the party. The songs also will be available for download through a link on NewTown’s website in September.
Kubas sai d the idea is to promote the region’s music talent.
“We really wanted people to be inspired by the talent that is in Macon and appreciate what is here,” she said. “We also wanted to give access to artists to promote their work.”
The range of genres on the CD comprises country, indie, R&B, rap, pop and rock.
Next year’s contest will run from January to March.
