Georgia’s Path2College 529 Plan and the Middle Georgia Regional Library System will kick off the “Every Hero Has A Story Sweepstakes” Saturday.

The contest is a statewide initiative designed to encourage children to read throughout the summer and remind parents and grandparents the importance of saving money for college.

Four regional winners will each receive $1,529, and the grand prize winner will receive $5,529 for college. The library of the grand prize winner will receive $1,529, and the libraries for the four regional winners will receive $529 each.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 10 a.m. at the Washington Memorial Library, 1180 Washington Ave. The event will have activities for families. Children’s illustrator Michael White will offer an interactive program to create superheroes suggested by the children.
