Nearly $1 million cash seized in alleged midstate ‘pill mill’ bust
Authorities say they found almost $1 million in cash stashed in boxes and a duffel bag while searching an alleged “pill mill” doctor’s office and vehicle in Eastman and other locations on Wednesday.
The cash turned up as investigators arrested Dr. George Mack Bird, 56, after a months-long probe.
In all, some $3 million in assets were seized, including two offices, a house and four automobiles.

According to a news release from the Oconee Judicial Circuit’s district attorney’s office, the seizures happened at two of Bird’s offices, at least one of which was a weight-loss clinic.
Bird and a nurse, Jennifer Douglas, 34, were being held without bond in the Dodge County jail on Friday.
Bird was charged with selling and possessing controlled substances, illegally writing prescriptions and other charges.
Douglas was charged with two counts of selling a controlled substance.
