Snapped pole leads to outage for Pio Nono shops, several homes

A delivery truck backed into a utility pole behind the Family Dollar on Pio Nono Avenue, triggering a power outage in the neighborhood Wednesday.

About 10:15 a.m., the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department responded to a call of arcing power lines on Patterson Street, which runs behind the Cherokee Shopping Center across from Hillcrest Avenue.

The pole was cracked and leaning toward the strip shopping center, which wiped out electricity for multiple businesses, including Family Dollar, Beauty World and Mediquip, as well as several homes along Patterson Street near Randolph Lane.

“Sorry we are closed,” read a sign taped to the front door of the Family Dollar.

“We’re hanging in there,” said a worker inside the dark store.

Georgia Power crews blocked off Patterson Street between Randolph and Roff lanes.
