Two women from Ontario, Canada, traveling through Monroe County were injured in a fiery crash Wednesday.
Ingrid Newberry, 76, was driving south in a Pontiac Montana in the far right lane of Interstate 75 about noon, when the vehicle crossed all lanes of traffic and struck the median wall. The accident happened near mile marker 185.
The vehicle caught fire, but Newberry and passenger Karen Newberry Nutt were pulled to safety. Both women were taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, in Macon with Newberry in critical condition and Nutt in stable condition.
The cause of the accident is being investigated.
