Authorities have tentatively identified a decomposed body found Thursday night on a riverbank in Jones County.
Sheriff’s Office Maj. Earl Humphries said deputies have used fingerprints, but they are submitting DNA to the GBI for confirmation. It could be two weeks or more before results of the DNA tests are returned.
An autopsy performed Friday revealed that the man, found on the bank of the Ocmulgee River under the Ga. 18 bridge, was not a victim of foul play. There was no sign of trauma, Humphries said.
A cause of death is pending additional medical testing.
Humphries said deputies think the man is local to Middle Georgia and may have been camping out under the bridge.
Anyone who noticed anything unusual near the border of Jones and Monroe counties, or thinks they may know the man, is urged to contact the Jones County Sheriff’s Office at 478-986-3489.
