Trio indicted in Macon beating death

Bibb County grand jurors on Tuesday indicted three people in the February beating death of a west Macon man.

Sylvester Harden Jr., 40, died hours after two men went into his house on Nisbet Drive the morning of Feb. 19 and pistol-whipped him, investigators have said.

The three indicted were jailed soon after the alleged attack.

Two men, Seymour Alex Passard and Ceyunta M. Cater, and 25-year-old Yolanda Marshea Butler are now formally accused of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Passard, 23, and Cater, 22, also face a third-degree cruelty to children charge. In addition, Passard was indicted on a charge of possession of a firearm by a first offender probationer.

Harden died after an 11-year-old girl at the house called a relative to say another man at the house had shown her a pornographic video.

The three accused then went to retrieve the girl, and Harden was fatally beaten, investigators said.
