A woman drove into the front of a day care center early Friday morning at 4150 Mercer University Drive.
It was about 8 a.m. when the SUV crashed into the building, crumbling bricks and dislodging one of the front windows near the door.
“We had a parent that said that the accelerator got stuck open on her car, and (she) ran into the front of our facility,” said Melinda Mathe, a manager at the Tender Years Learning Center across from Macon Memorial Park.
“Luckily everyone was in the back at the time,” she said.
The children and staff were transferred to one of the company’s other locations at 206 Chambers Cove.
“No one was hurt,” Mathe said. “She had a 7-year-old child in the car with her, but nobody got hurt.”
After an insurance adjuster inspects the property, a contractor will secure the building and make repairs.
The state will have to inspect the center before it can reopen, Mathe said.
“We’re actually in the process now of getting everything restored and so forth and go from there,” she said.
