Growth strategies to be taught at Macon forum, workshop

Macon residents and business owners are encouraged to learn about best growth strategies in two events this week.

Smart Growth America selected Macon-Bibb County as its only Georgia community where it will share best practices for development and growth, according to a Macon-Bibb County news release.

A public forum is set for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the commission chambers of the Government Center, formerly known as City Hall, at 700 Poplar St.

A workshop will be held Thursday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in Terminal Station’s fourth-floor conference room at 200 Cherry St.

“Macon-Bibb County is facing some important opportunities and challenges, so the time is ripe for a discussion of smart growth tools the community can employ to plan for future growth in the most strategic way,” said Roger Millar, director of Smart Growth America’s Leadership Institute.

Macon-Bibb’s application was one of 14 selected from more than 120 communities in 35 states.
