Macon shatters record low with late freeze

Temperatures 20 degrees below normal Sunday morning set a new March 29 record low for Macon.

The temperature dropped to 30 degrees before 5 a.m., tying the record low set in 1966, but it didn’t stop there.

The thermometer at Middle Georgia Regional Airport recorded a low of 27 degrees before the sun rose to quickly warm temperatures.

In north Georgia, temperatures were in the mid to upper 20s early Sunday.

It dropped to 24 degrees in Rome and 25 in both northeast Atlanta and Peachtree City.

Lows in Middle Georgia will return to near seasonal normals Monday with temperatures expected in the mid 40s.
