H&R Block to discuss how Affordable Care Act affects taxes

H&R Block will hold a public talk Saturday about the impact of the Affordable Care Act.

The free “Tax Talk” session, presented by H&R Block tax professional Mary Manley, will be held 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Agape Covenant Worship Center, 1909 Woodland Drive, Macon.

“National estimates show 30 million Americans were uninsured for all or part of the year, opening up the possibility they may have to pay a tax penalty if they don’t qualify for an exemption,” Manley said in a news release. “Another 7 million Americans received health insurance through the marketplace and will have to reconcile their Advance Premium Tax Credit when they file their tax return.”

“Overall, the complexity is going to increase for a group of people, both those who signed up for insurance through the marketplace and those who did not.”

The talk aims to educate the public on their responsibility to obtain health insurance, availability of assistance with heath care costs, availability of exemptions, tax return requirements and planning for 2015, according to the release.
