A pedestrian died Wednesday night in the 3100 Block of Broadway after being struck by a log truck and another car.
The victim was identified by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office as 55-year-old Douglas Michael Oliver, formerly of Perry, who Coroner Leon Jones said he believes to be homeless.
It took authorities hours overnight to locate Oliver family in the Hawkinsville area, said Lt. Sean DeFoe, spokesman for the sheriff’s office.
The driver of an empty log truck told deputies he could not stop in time to avoid hitting Oliver about 7:15 p.m., DeFoe said.

The impact threw Oliver from the northbound lane into the southbound lane, where he was hit again, this time by a green Honda Accord.
No charges have been filed, and the investigation is in the preliminary stages, DeFoe said. Traffic was rerouted away from the area.
Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 751-7500 and leave a message for the fatality investigators.
