Temperatures could reach into the teens across the midstate by early Wednesday. Here are some tips to help deal with the bitter cold:
Make sure outdoor spigots are covered or wrapped.
Let a small, steady stream of cold water drip from a faucet. Running water at a trickle can help keep pipes from freezing.
Keep garage doors closed if there are water supply lines in the garage.

Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around the plumbing.
Keep the thermostat set to the same temperature during the day and at night.
For the long term, add insulation to attics, basements and crawl spaces. Insulation will maintain higher temperatures in those areas.
