Big changes are coming to the Bibb County school system’s Technology Services Department, and residents can see for themselves during an open house Tuesday afternoon.
A Technology Services and Core Data Center Open House will be held from 4-6 p.m. at Hutchings College and Career Academy, 2011 Riverside Drive in Macon.
Guests may take tours of the Help Desk, 21st Century Training Center, District Technology Administration and Network Operation Center The district is in the final stages of a technology infrastructure transformation, which began in September 2013 and involves all 49 district locations. The most significant improvement for the district is the completion of the District Data Center.
Other upgrades include: complete infrastructure (cabling, electronics, and wireless) upgrades in all locations; improved WAN/Internet access; staff and student computer upgrades throughout the district; and the completion of a new setup of Active Directory/Exchange with all staff using Office 2013 and students using Office 365.
“The upgrades that have taken place over the last year and half under the leadership of Dr. Mike Hall have enabled our system to move into the 21st century era of technology. We’ve moved from having one of the worst technology systems in the state to one of the best in the state, and there are even greater things to come in the area of technology,” interim school Superintendent Steve Smith said in a statement.
