The city of Milledgeville and the Milledgeville Main Street/Downtown Development Authority have been recognized for excellence in downtown development.
Thirteen Georgia cities were recognized for achievement in four categories -- urban design, economic development, organizational projects and downtown promotions -- at the Georgia Downtown Conference Awards of Excellence ceremony Aug. 21 in Decatur. Gov. Nathan Deal’s office announced the winners in a Thursday news release.
Communities earned gold, silver or bronze awards in each of the four categories. The city of Milledgeville won silver in the urban design category, and the Milledgeville Main Street/Downtown Development Authority won bronze in organizational projects.
“Our downtowns are the heart of our communities, and these award-winning cities set the standard for downtowns across the state and nation,” Deal said in the release. “A vibrant, economically robust downtown is a sign of an actively engaged community committed to enhancing its economic competitiveness and its quality of life.”
