A Dodge County inmate who escaped from jail Friday is back in custody.
Joseph Bernard Phillips, 32, of Eastman, was captured Monday in Atlanta by Dodge County deputies, U.S. Marshals and Atlanta police, a Dodge County Sheriff’s Office news release stated.
Phillips, who was arrested Friday by the Oconee Drug Task Force on a sale of cocaine charge, escaped when he ran out of the jail lobby door after shoving down a sheriff’s employee, the release stated.
Authorities who were searching for Phillips during the weekend learned that he boarded a Greyhound bus early Monday in Dublin with plans to flee to Philadelphia, , the release stated. He was arrested at an Atlanta bus terminal about 10:30 a.m.
He faces charges of escape and obstruction.
The 40-year-old jail, which the news release noted does not meet standard safety and security codes, has only one entrance which inmates and members of the public all pass through.
