Drivers may want to stay off Interstate 75 in Macon this weekend as work crews remove and replace the outside shoulders to prepare the road for widening.

One lane northbound and one lane southbound between Pierce Avenue and Arkwright Road will be closed beginning at 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, according to a news release from the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The work zone is between mile markers 167 and 169.

The interstate is being widened from four lanes to six with construction of a new interchange and bridges along 3.36 miles.
