Council committee asks Macon parks director for problems list

Macon Parks and Recreation Director Dale Dougherty intended to talk Tuesday to the City Council’s Community Resources and Development Committee about developing a comprehensive plan for the city’s parks and recreation centers.

Instead, Councilman Charles Jones said he wanted specific information about problems with recreation centers because concerned parents have bombarded him with questions.

“I want a breakdown of the things that need to be done at Memorial Gym, at every gym, so we can triage the situation instead of taking an overall picture of it,” Jones said.

Councilwoman Lauren Benedict also noted her concern that the pool at the Frank Johnson Recreation Center on Mercer University Drive looked green a week ago.

Jones told Dougherty that he has some possible misgivings about the director’s approach to employee relations because of letters he’s received.

“I’m going to be blunt,” Jones said to Dougherty, “Sometimes the way you come across to me is like you’re my master and I’m your servant.”
