Injured police trainee says she holstered gun properly

The Macon police recruit injured Thursday during a police training academy activity at the police firing range told other officers she was holstering her weapon properly when the gun fired and shot her in the leg, according to a police report.

Tomika Jackson said she didn’t know what caused the gun to fire, according to the report.

The incident happened about 7:30 a.m. Jackson was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia with a non-life threatening injury, police said.

The incident is being reviewed by the police in accordance with the department’s policy.
