Police and political officials joined forces at the Senior Citizens Center on Tuesday afternoon to give neighborhood residents an early version of "Giving Crime a Going Away Party.'' The National Night Out event was their own version of "Dancing with the Stars," which featured staffers of the mayor's office, Bibb County Sheriff's Office, Macon Police Department and dance instructor Paula East. Organizer Judy Gordon explained the connection between crime and dancing: "Dancing helps with brain function, helps you be more alert, and the exercise is good.'' More than that, she said, it was a great way for police and seniors to get acquainted.
