The Richmond County Commission approved Macon City Councilman Alveno Ross on Tuesday to become the county’s new chief appraiser.
Ross said he was unanimously approved.
Ross said he will begin his new job Monday and plans a news conference this week to discuss his council seat.
According to a city ordinance, depending on when Ross’ resignation becomes official, the council could hold a special election to fill the balance of Ross’ term. However, if the vacancy occurs within 12 months of the expiration of the term of that office, the council could appoint a successor for the remainder of the term within 20 days of the seat becoming vacant. Ross said he will miss Macon.
“I love this community,” he said. “I also need to be employed. I’m looking forward to this new challenge.”
