A Jones County man is being held in the Central American country of Belize after being arrested in an airport last week because he had five bullets in his luggage, according to the office of U.S. Rep. Jim Marshall, D-Ga.
Bradford Bryant remains in custody of local police in Belize, awaiting a hearing.
Bryant’s family has been in contact with Marshall’s office since he was arrested.
“There’s only so much we can do,” said Doug Moore, a Marshall spokesman, adding that efforts to free Bryant would fall to the U.S. Department of State.
Bryant’s brother is in Belize and in contact with the U.S. Embassy there, Moore said.
He will remain in custody until June 14, according to a report from 7NewsBelize.com, a local news source.
Bryant was attempting to board a flight for Atlanta when he was arrested, 7NewsBelize.com also reported.
