Ga. PSC eliminates mandatory distribution of phone books

The Georgia Public Service Commission voted 4-1 Tuesday to change a rule that will allow AT&T Georgia to eliminate mandatory distribution of printed directories to 18 Georgia cities with populations greater than 50,000.

Local carriers will not be obligated to distribute the telephone directories.

Customers, however, may request a copy of the white pages, and the local exchange carrier must provide them with a copy in printed or electronic form, free of charge.

Among the Middle Georgia communities affected are Macon, Forsyth and Warner Robins
