Skateboarder seriously hurt in Macon

After Second Sunday Brunch and Derby Day celebrations ended at Macon’s Washington Park, a skateboarder suffered a serious accident Sunday night.

Walter Gary, 26, of Griffin, was in critical but stable condition with a head injury Monday afternoon in the neuro-intensive care unit of The Medical Center of Central Georgia, hospital spokeswoman Janie Poulnott said.

Macon police dispatchers said emergency crews were called to a report of a person injured shortly after 8 p.m., but no further information was immediately released concerning the accident.

Soapbox racers cruised down the hill earlier Sunday afternoon and since Magnolia Street was already closed for the event, neighbors organized a block party with music and food. The official Second Sunday concert and race were over, but the street party was still going on when the accident occurred.
