Jones County man charged with shooting stepfather Monday night

A 30-year-old Jones County man has been charged with shooting his stepfather Monday night in Wayside, a community between Gray and Round Oak, according to the Jones County Sheriff’s Office.

Christopher Wayne Jones, of Old Highway 11, is charged with aggravated assault and is being held at the Jones County jail. His bond has not been set, said sheriff’s investigator Kenny Gleaton.

Jones is accused of shooting 57-year-old Bruce Jackson, of Hillsboro Lake Road, at about 8:40 p.m. at Jones’ home following an ongoing family dispute, Gleaton said.

Two gunshots struck Jackson — one in the lower leg and a second in the lower back and buttocks area. Jackson is listed in stable condition at a local hospital, Gleaton said.
