Autopsies show both anglers died of accidental drowning at Tobesofkee

An autopsy performed Wednesday concluded the fisherman found Tuesday dead in Lake Tobesofkee died in an accidental drowning, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.

Searchers found 52-year-old Willie Buckles, of Byron, about a few hundred yards south of where his uncle, 62-year-old Frank Roquemore, was found Sunday.

Roquemore, of Warner Robins, was found near Claystone Park and also accidentally drowned, Jones said. The two men went fishing at the lake shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday.

Searchers raised the men’s sunken boat Tuesday, and the boat has been moved to a facility where investigators can examine it, said Rick Lavender, a spokesman for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

It’s still unknown what caused the boat to sink.

Lavender said neither man was wearing a life jacket.
