MWA votes to exclude centralized waste treatment

The Macon Water Authority voted unanimously Thursday to create a policy that excludes centralized waste treatment operations from using Macon’s sewer system.

Those facilities treat or recover oily waste, hazardous or non-hazardous metal-bearing waste and other kinds of waste from off-site, according to Environmental Protection Agency guidelines.

The issue came up because Massachusetts-based Green Renewable Oil had been in talks with Bibb County officials to place a proposed oil re-refinery here. The re-refinery would use centralized waste treatment in its process.
