Macon police officer injured in wreck

A Macon police officer was slightly injured in a wreck on Shurling Drive on Monday afternoon.

Officer Reginald Washington was pulling out of a shopping center parking lot with his emergency strobes flashing when a car headed west on Shurling hit the side of his patrol car, police spokesman Zac Self said.

The crash happened about 4 p.m. at the Shurling intersection with Maynard Street, just east of Gray Highway. Washington was en route to check on an officer who wasn’t answering dispatchers on his radio, Self said.

The car that hit Washington rolled through a green light, Self said, noting that other cars had stopped to allow Washington to get through the intersection.
