Flu shot campaign begins today

Vaccines for swine flu may not be available yet in Middle Georgia, but ones for seasonal flu and pneumonia are.

The Macon-Bibb County Health Department begins its annual campaign today, offering the flu vaccine at Macon Mall, near the former Parisian store, said LaTonje May, the department’s health services program supervisor.

Drive-through service only will be available at the mall from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. today and Tuesday. The cost is $25 for the flu vaccine. There is a limit of four people per car.

Beginning Wednesday, both shots will be available at the health department, located at 171 Emery Highway. Shots will be available there through Friday. The hours for the walk-in service will also be 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The pneumonia vaccine costs $51.

Medicaid, Medicare and the state health benefit plan will be accepted.
