Patrol cars involved in pedestrian accidents

A Macon police car and a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office car were involved in separate traffic accidents Thursday.

The police car, driven by officer Chris Valenziano, was traveling north on Riverside Drive just after 11 p.m. when a pedestrian, Jerome Joiner, stepped out in front of the vehicle, a police report said.

Valenziano swerved to avoid Joiner but struck him in the leg. The pedestrian told police he was trying to get directions when he stepped into the road.

Joiner sustained leg injuries and was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia.

In the other accident, a sheriff’s patrol car driven by Gregory Thomas was northbound on Bloomfield Road just after 9:30 p.m. While driving through an area with heavy road construction, the car hit pedestrian Arthur Meadows with its side mirror, a police report said.

Thomas was taken to Coliseum Medical Centers.
