Macon Area Habitat for Humanity will partner with Wachovia on the construction of its 17th home in the Lynmore Estates area of south Macon, the group announced Wednesday.
The Wells Fargo Housing Foundation is donating $35,000 to help rehabilitate and transform a duplex on San Carlos Drive into a single-family home, said Harold Tessendorf, the Habitat chapter’s executive director.
This first rehab house in the neighborhood is part of a 46-home building program scheduled for completion in 2012. Construction on the latest project is scheduled to begin Saturday and be completed by early winter 2010.
Since 1986, Macon Area Habitat for Humanity has built 72 new homes in Bibb and Jones counties.
The Habitat chapter’s board of directors established the Lynmore Estates Neighborhood Revitalization Project in 2005, aiming to restore a once thriving World War II neighborhood established in 1945.
