UGA to honor 48th Brigade Combat Team in home opener

The University of Georgia football team will honor Georgia National Guardsmen deployed in Afghanistan during its Sept. 12 home opener against the University of South Carolina Gamecocks.

Each Georgia player will have the 48th Brigade Combat Team insignia affixed to his helmet.

In addition, the Georgia and Georgia Tech athletics departments will offer, free of charge, all of their games on live streaming audio for troops deployed overseas during the 2009 season.

The No. 13 Bulldogs open their season Saturday in Stillwater, Okla., against the ninth-ranked Oklahoma Sooners.

Georgia Tech, ranked 15th in the preseason Associated Press Top 25 poll, opens against Jacksonville State.
