Ocmulgee drownings ruled accidental

After performing autopsies on the two individuals who drowned Sunday in the Ocmulgee River, the GBI Medical Examiner determined both individuals’ deaths were accidental, according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

Authorities said the two men’s deaths were unrelated. Gary Hutto, 47, of Macon, and Michael Thomas Hill, 22, from Peach County, both died of asphyxia by drowning, Jones said.

Neither drugs nor alcohol were involved in the deaths “as far as we know,” Jones said. Some toxicology results have not been received yet, Jones said.
