New ramps, lane shifts coming on I-75, I-475

Interstate traffic will shift in south Bibb County again this week as the Georgia Department of Transportation opens new interstate ramps and continues to revamp the Hartley Bridge Road, Interstate 75 and Interstate 475 area.

The new ramp linking I-475 south to I-75 south will be opened Wednesday about 9 p.m., as will new ramps linking Hartley Bridge Road to the interstate, according to a DOT news release. Other temporary changes, particularly on I-75 southbound itself, will be made as well as construction crews continuing their work in the area, the release states.

Various projects in the Hartley Bridge Road and I-75/I-475 area have been underway for several years. The DOT has spent an estimated $83 million in the area to address a dangerous weaving motion caused when drivers try to make their exits.

Basically, the Hartley Bridge road exit was too close to the I-75/I-475 split.

The timing for the planned traffic shifts could change depending on the weather. For real-time traffic and construction updates on all interstates and state routes, motorists can call 511 and get information directly from the DOT.
