Partnership formed to help literacy in Middle Georgia

An effort to improve literacy will begin Monday at Macon Mall.

The mall, Friends of the Library, Books A Million and Amstar Cinema 16 created a partnership to reach youth 14-19 years old, according to a news release.

The teens are encouraged to read “The Soloist” during the summer, and in September they will be invited to gather to watch the movie based on the book and to discuss the book, the release stated.

Beginning Monday, the first 50 people can pick up a free copy of the book and sign a pledge to read it at the mall’s guest services desk.

Macon libraries will have the book available to check out. Parents are encourage also to read the book to get involved with their children during the project. Macon Mall, 3661 Eisenhower Parkway, is open 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays and noon-6 p.m. Sundays.
