Missing teen spotted in south Macon, Bibb investigators say

Bibb County sheriff’s investigators say a missing Lake Wildwood teenager has been spotted in the vicinity of Interstate 475 and U.S. 80, and in the Bloomfield neighborhood in south Macon.

There have been sightings of 14-year-old Lauren Harrell, of 944 Unadilla Trail, in that area and near the Macon Mall since she was reported missing from her home Sunday, said sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. George Meadows.

Harrell weighs about 100 pounds and is 5 feet tall. She has blond hair and blue eyes, and was last seen wearing blue jeans and possibly a Hollister T-shirt.

“We do have plausible evidence that she is in that area,” Meadows said. “We found an article that belongs to her.”Investigators recovered a bag belonging to Harrell, Meadows said, not saying where the item was found or exactly where sightings were made.

Investigators believe the teenager left her home voluntarily with an unknown male she met on the Internet.

“We had a lead that she may have been in a certain hotel and we spent time going door to door,” he said, “but that turned up nothing.”

Sheriff’s deputies also followed up on a tip by combing The Shoppes at River Crossing in north Bibb County, but did not find the girl.
