The Bibb County Commission presented checks totaling more than $145,300 Tuesday to neighboring cities and counties that assisted in cleanup from the Mother’s Day tornadoes.
The checks were a partial reimbursement for the cities’ and counties’ assistance following the May 2008 storms that damaged parts of Bibb County and littered it with debris.
The checks consist of reimbursements from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (75 percent), the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (13.75 percent) and Bibb County (11.25 percent).
Recipients of the checks were: the Byron Police Department, the Byron Fire Department, Byron Public Works, the Fort Valley Police Department, Houston County Public Works, Jones County Public Works, Monroe County Public Works and the Peach County Sheriff’s Department.
Commission Chairman Sam Hart said he hoped some day Bibb County could repay the favor.
