City of Macon to clean cemetery

Macon is cleaning up Cedar Ridge Cemetery, a private burial site that adjoins the city’s Evergreen Cemetery, Mayor Robert Reichert announced at a news conference Tuesday.

The private cemetery’s most recent owners are deceased, Reichert said, leaving nobody to pick up debris that was created last year during the Mother’s Day Tornado. Employees from the Parks and Recreation and Public Works departments, as well as inmates, will help remove trees and other trash from Cedar Ridge, which is located off Houston Avenue.

The trees and limbs that are cleared away will be made available as free firewood that people may pick up at the mulch lot on 11th Street next to Animal Control.
