Tattnall Square Academy names new headmaster

Larry Collins was named the new head of school at Tattnall Square Academy this afternoon.

Collins will take over for Barney Hester, who has served in the position since 1997. Hester has been Tattnall's head football coach since 1982 and will continue in that position next year.

Collins has been an assistant headmaster at Deerfield-Windsor in Albany since 2002.

Collins will take over June 1, after the close of this school year.

"My wife and I were praying about the decision, and in the last couple of days decided this is what we should do," Collins said.

"I believe that Larry Collins is the man God has chosen to lead our school at this time,” said Mark Pitts, chairman of Tattnall Square Academy’s board of directors.

"Larry was chosen as our new head of school because he was able to demonstrate the spiritual strength the school is looking for along with his superb educational background and work history with independent schools."

Collins is married to Melanie, and they have three children, Drew, Hudson and Mary Ramsey.
