An empty log truck changing lanes triggered a four-vehicle accident that injured three people Wednesday morning near the Interstate 75 northbound exit ramp at Hardeman Avenue.
At about 7:30 a.m. the Freightliner truck moved over from the right lane to the center lane to avoid traffic congestion backing up at the ramp and hit a white Chevy Malibu in the center lane, said Donald Johnson, Macon police traffic officer. The Malibu collided with a black Mercedes sedan that started spinning into the cement divider in the middle of the highway and hit another black Mercedes sedan, Johnson said. Only one of the injured motorists was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia, Johnson said. Traffic backed up toward Pio Nono Avenue causing delays for nearly two hours as wreckers removed the vehicles.
