A new Bibb County chairman and four returning commissioners were sworn into office this afternoon as outgoing Chairman Charlie Bishop passed the torch to Sam Hart.
“Sam, let me assure you, you’ve got a great team backing you,” Bishop said during the ceremony. “We pass on to you the mantle of a great organization.”
Hart took his oath in front of more than 60 friends, family, city and county officials and residents huddled in the commission board room, with countless others spilling out into the hall.
“I pledge and promise to do my best,” Hart said following his oath.
Commissioners Lonzy Edwards, Bert Bivins, Elmo Richardson and Joe Allen reaffirmed their oaths of office. The new commission officially will take office Jan. 1.
