Bibb schools, officials recognized for work

Several Bibb County school officials were honored for good work during the Thursday night school board meeting.

Heritage Elementary School raised $10,523 for the annual Relay for Life to aid the American Cancer Society.

The school system raised $507,943 overall.

Relay for Life Co-chairs Beth Lange and Shane Edwards presented Bibb schools Superintendent Sharon Patterson with a plaque and honored her as Relay for Life Superintendent of the Year for the South Atlantic Division.

The Advocacy Resource Center of Macon named Springdale teacher Pamela Webster elementary teacher of the year and Janice Pickett of Central as high school teacher of the year and Joy Wimberly, a special education coordinator, as administrator of the year.

Becky Greene, a media specialist at Alexander II Magnet School, was named 2008 Georgia Library Media Specialist of the year.

And projects from seven Bibb schools qualified for the International Student Media Festival. The schools represented were Alexander II, Burdell-Hunt, Howard Middle, Hutchings Career Center, Westside High, Springdale and Skyview.
