Bibb school board declares former schools surplus

The Bibb County school board voted Thursday to declare three old schools as surplus property.

The former King Elementary school building off Shurling Drive, former Ballard-Hudson Middle School at 1780 Anthony Road and the former Redding Elementary School in Lizella are being put up for sale. Money from the properties would help the general fund, school officials said.

During the November school board meeting, the board also voted to close-out state capital outlay funding to Bruce Elementary. A portion of funds for the Bruce school construction was provided by the Georgia Department of Education’s capital outlay funding program. A percent of funds were retained until the project was complete. Since Bibb met those obligations the board approved a resolution to now collect the retained funds. The board also approved a 2009 general fund budget amendment and to repair copper wiring to Ingram-Pye Elementary. Burglars stole copper from the building in September and a fire marshal requested more security features.
