Macon teen shot dead after being released from jail

A day after a Macon teen was released from jail, he was dead.

DaKwaun Tyre Faulks, 18, was fatally shot Sunday evening, but little is known about how it happened or where.

Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley said Faulks arrived at the Medical Center, Navicent Health, emergency room at about 7 p.m. by private vehicle. He was pronounced dead at 7:14 p.m.

“We don’t know exactly where it happened,” he said.

He said Bibb County deputies are interviewing witnesses to determine the circumstances of the shooting.

Faulks was fatally wounded in the left side of his back, according to a Bibb County sheriff’s news release, but investigators are trying to determine where the shooting took place and what led up to it.

Shortly after 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Faulks was released from the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

He was booked Thursday on charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit a felony, according to jail records.

Investigators do not believe anyone else was injured when Faulks was shot, but deputies are asking anyone with information to call an investigator at 478-751-7500 or phone anonymous tips to Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 877-68-CRIME.

Faulks’ death was Bibb County’s 25th homicide of the year and the second in a week after Gulf Mart clerk Alpeshkumar Prajapati was shot to death during an apparent armed robbery Tuesday morning at 2893 Napier Avenue.

Prajapati’s killers are still at large.
