Bibb County is set to celebrate Halloween with trick or treating from 5:30-8 p.m. Oct. 31, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

As the holiday approaches, the sheriff’s office encourages trick-or-treaters to consider the following safety tips:

▪ Wear something that can be easily seen by others, especially drivers.

▪ Be sure the costume is not flammable, is easy to walk in and is not a tripping hazard.

▪ Consider wearing face makeup instead of a mask. If you must wear a mask, make sure it fits properly and that the eye holes are large enough to see through them with ease.

Trick or Treating

▪ Always go with a group, follow a planned route with well-lit streets and be sure to tell someone which streets you plan to visit and when you expect to return.

▪ Youngsters should always be accompanied by a parent.

▪ Everyone should use flashlights or glow sticks and make sure to cross only at corners, not in the middle of a block or from between parked cars. Before going out, talk with your children about how to be a safe pedestrian.

▪ Never eat any goodies until you return home and an adult checks all treats. Throw away any food not commercially wrapped and sealed. Report suspicious treats to law enforcement.

Driving on Halloween

▪ Slow down and anticipate lots of pedestrians.

▪ Drive with extra caution in residential neighborhoods.

▪ Take extra time to watch for children at intersections, along curbs and near medians.
